Dear, deviantart fellow artists,

stop wishing, start doing

As usual I had no idea what would be the topic of this journal, but I managed to think about and write down these 5 reasons why we (and I) tend to fail on things we want/have to do and I hope you'll find this journal post helpful. :)

1. Time management issues.
"I have no time for this", "If only I had the time for that" .. we tend to make these excuses, as if we all wouldn't have the same amount of time every single day. It's how we manage to spend that time, that matters. A lot of us have other important things to do, but let's be honest, if you have the dedication there are really no obstacles in your way. There will never be the perfect time for anything and with proper planning It's easier set the priorities for the right things.

2. Distractions.
They are everywhere. Especially on the internet. We tend to waste so many hours on checking what's new, reading blog posts, looking on social media updates - finding ways that would allow our minds to wander around, just to forget about problems, just for a little while. It's okay to do that, but only in small amounts. Set a timer and realize how much these disctractions impact your life.

3. Procrastination.
"I'll do this most important task later" - how many times I had regrets about doing first the things that I really liked to do, rather than what I needed to do. But did I learn from my mistakes? Not at all. Of course, I try to not do things in the last moment, to somehow motivate myself to just get to the work that has to be done. As for example - reward yourself afterwards with an episode of favorite tv series, something that you like and then before doing that awful and stressful task think about how good you will feel when it will be done.

4. No motivation.

Think about the reasons why you need to accomplish that thing. Why it has the meaning. Would it make someone's (or yours) life better in any way? Would it make a difference? If there is a valid reason, then motivation will go along. As in matter of making art - being self-motivated is one of the most important things, because if you're not eager to do what you really want to do, then no-one will be able to help you. Only you can motivate yourself the most and if you seek for advice and are willing to make things happen, there are no boundaries of what you can do.

5. Being afraid to fail.
Don't be. We all make mistakes and we gain the experience and move on. Through trial and error we learn the most and we have to just start and make a commitment to ourselves - to carry on, no matter of what may happen. There will always be difficulties, people who don't support you and things that may go wrong in so many ways, but you know - the passion and dedication will get you through.

So, how about you - what are reasons that don't let you get things done?

I found some usefu resources this week - inspirational art blog - theinspirationgrid.com/, lovely post about hard work and Van Gogh - 99u.com/workbook/25785/vincent… , this inspiring post about art of Edgar Payne gracierb.blogspot.com/2012/06/… and Andrew Loomis books, available for free download alexhays.com/loomis/ and motivational video - The Art of the Game".

P.S. I quite frequently post some sketches and artworks in my art tumblr - snowmarite.tumblr.com/. and I have a weekly Music Sunday post on aerismade.blogspot.com/
