There are times when everything goes well, but sometimes It's so easy to let those thoughts (whether caused by fear, life, problems etc.) to overcome your wilingness to do anything. So we let ourselves to get distracted, even though that's not what we really want to do. It's just easier. But we should not let overthinking to stand in our way.

People do tend to overthink all the time. Worrying about unimportant things, while doing nothing about solving actual problems. If there is anything that you think constantly about, that needs to be done - don't put it away till the later. It will only get worse. So often do we regret our decisions in the past, yet we are the only ones who can impact our future.

People also crave for distractions. That's why probably social media sites are so popular these days. Watching youtube videos all day - It's inspiring to see how other people get successful by being themselves and making great things, although we have our own lifes to make wonderful. Spending all day beside the screen, clicking on next videos, trying to find something to distract our minds - the same with tv series, movies, games - people tend to get so dedicated to unreal things, to care more about fictional characters than themselves.

I'm myself quite fangirl, but I try to spend less time on such things I mentioned. It's not easy, I still tend to *accidentally* watch tv shows by seasons in couple of days or scroll through tumblr for lovely gifs. But It's necessary to stay focused on things that matter. To not let procrastination take over all the time and then feeling guilty about that.

There are also those negative thoughts and anxiety - feeling of not being productive enough, that everything is a waste of time. That's why having a clear goal is so important. The reason why you make art. What is meaningful to you. That's how you get inspired, that's what let's you to be productive... I once asked an artist on livestream how he kept himself motivated and he told me that It's just what he does - he keeps on working. But you know .. you shouldn't feel bad about that you feel not in the mood to create all the time, because It's a struggle for a lot of other artists. There are times of artists blocks and wanting to give up, inner doubts - those are things that people usually don't talk about, or think they don't happen to real artists.

But they do.
We all are humble, we all are.

We have to remind ourselves that we are not alone and that nobody is perfect, and that through dedication and persistence we can keep going forward, so

  • Do not let negativity and depressing thoughts stay in your way.
  • Don't let bad habits impact your life.
  • Don't let way too high or low expectations to prevent you from doing your best.
  • Don't let overthinking stay in your way of doing actual work.
  • Don't let memories of past to influence your future.
Well, as cheezy as it may sound - the best way to defeat overthinking is just by doing something about it.
Write those thoughts out, get them out of your mind. Take a break.
Turn off the computer, sketch something, take a large paintbrush and put your worries on paper.
Get off social media for a while, stop worrying way too much about likes and popularity, make an artworks that you really love to make, that have a story and what resonates with you.
Don't assume that you will fail, you may never know what may happen, so just let go of that negativity and move forward on making your dreams come true

So, how about you - what are your thoughts/tips about overthinking?

This week I found some lovely resources - an inspiring blog posts about the topic - Stop Overthinking It by noahbradleyDon't Overthink It: 5 Tips for Daily Decision-Making by 99u (Jocelyn K. Glei), 9 Ways To Stop Overthinking Everything and Why Overthinking Is The Root Of All Your Problems . :)
Also a blog with so many amazing links of resourcful posts/websites/information, tumblr blog about workspaces and tools of other artists, this inspiring journal post by Yuuzathis huge list of free art related books and a video about wrist exercises that are so extremely important for your drawing hand - I recently been struggling with some wrist paint (bit overworked with studies and such), but taking breaks and doing these stretches really have helped a lot, so I would absolutely reccomend to watch this video and follow those exercises. :)

P.S. I quite frequently post some sketches and artworks in my art tumblr - snowmarite.tumblr.com/. and I have a weekly Music Sunday post on aerismade.blogspot.com/  and weekly 8 songs playlist. :)

Have a wonderful week!
